Dr. Roberts’ journey of academic excellence began in Nassau, where he was a standout student and graduate of the historic “Old” Government High School, claiming numerous academic prizes. His exceptional intellect earned him the prestigious, first-ever Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship awarded to a Bahamian for undergraduate studies. In 1971, he enrolled at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, graduating four years later with First Class Honors and the coveted University Medal in Biochemistry.
Following his undergraduate success, Dr. Roberts transitioned to the University of the West Indies (UWI) Faculty of Medicine in Kingston, Jamaica. Throughout his five years of medical school, he accumulated top honors for his academic and practical brilliance, including:

- The University Medal for Physiology
- The Noel Hayes Prize for Anatomy
- The Dr. Frank Grannum Memorial Prize for Social & Preventive Medicine
Dr. Roberts returned to Nassau to complete his internship at the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) in 1980. Recognizing a critical void in national healthcare, he chose to pursue specialized training to become the country's first urologist.
He was accepted into the rigorous urology residency program at his alma mater, Dalhousie University. To support his postgraduate training, he was awarded the A.F. Mayne Memorial Fund from the Roywest Trust Corporation Bahamas Ltd. During his residency, his innate talent for instruction and leadership earned him induction into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honorary Medical Society.
In 1987, Dr. Roberts made history upon his return to the region. He arrived as the first trained transplant surgeon in the Caribbean, the first certified urologist in The Bahamas, and the first urologist to serve in the Government health services. Throughout his career, Dr. Roberts has published numerous articles in peer reviewed journals and has honored his commitment to participate in research in order to provide patients with promising treatment options.
Through decades of public service at PMH, private practice, and academic leadership, Dr. Roberts transformed urological care in the region.
